Call a specialist to talk about Canoeing.

For the more adventurous safari-goer, a canoe expedition is a thrilling and memorable addition to a mainly land-based itinerary. For the keen canoeist, it is possible to spend your entire safari travelling from lodge to lodge in a canoe, particularly in the Lower Zambezi National Park and neighbouring stretch of river, where there are many high-quality lodges with all the necessary equipment for such journeys.

After the bumpy, dusty off-road game drives, the serene, noiseless quality of a canoeing safari on the Lower Zambezi or Kafue rivers can be priceless. Canoe journeys tend to follow the flow of the river, so they are rarely strenuous, and take you to parts of the Park that off-road vehicles cannot reach. You will be able to glide up to elephant, hippo or buffalo herds with ease, providing unique game-viewing and photographic opportunities.

Canoeing in Zambia is suitable for all ages and abilities - you will receive full instruction from the lodge [cont.]

staff and each canoe will be allocated a guide with considerable experience of the river and its inhabitants to keep you safe.

All the costs for your trip are included in the lodge overnight price in most cases - very often the canoe trip can simply replace an overland transfer between lodges, or else be offered as an excursion from a lodge in place of a normal game-drive or walk.

We would highly recommend the addition of a canoe trip to any Zambian safari itinerary if possible - it provides a different perspective to the African bush and helps create a well-rounded and exciting safari that will live long in the memory.

A classic such, that we recently hosted in the Lower Zambezi, began with two nights at Kanyemba Island Bush Camp, followed by a camp-out en route to Kasaka River Lodge, and then a couple of nights each at Chongwe River Lodge and Old Mondoro, the entire trip being undertaken by canoe.
