Call a specialist to talk about Sporting Activities.

While for many safari-goers the thrill of seeing big-game in their natural habitat up close and personal will probably be enough excitement, others may appreciate even more heart-pounding action, and in Zambia the best place to go for this is the Victoria Falls and the Zambezi River.

The Falls themselves are a wonderful sight of course but in and around the area there are many activities that visitors to the area can enjoy. These range from white-water rafting down the Batoka Gorge below the Victoria Falls, which include the highest concentration of grade 4 and 5 rapids anywhere in the world. Despite this, the steep canyon walls, deep water and lack of mid-river rocks make rafting here very safe and a good place to try it for the first time. If the pace is still too sedate for you, you can also take to the Gorge in a high-powered Jet Boat which will have you flying over the rapids at 60mph.

Victoria Falls is well-renowned as a great bungee-jumping location, with spectacular views of the Falls from [cont.]

the jumping point down into the Gorge at the Zambia-Zimbabwe bridge crossing (not that you'll be able to see them when suspended a few feet above the river's surface at the bottom of your jump). Gorge-swinging, abseiling and the cable-slide "Flying Fox" are other unique ways to explore the Gorge.

As well as taking to the waters around the Falls you can also take to the skies in a microlight, helicopter or light aircraft which is the best way to take in the full splendour and scale of the Falls. For those keen on microlighting, John Coppinger also offers microlight flights from his lodge in South Luangwa National Park, Tafika, which is a fantastic way to see the bush and plan your day's game viewing route!

Why not combine your visit to Zambia with a beach extension at a location such as Zanzibar, Mauritius or Mozambique? At all three locations there are excellent PADI diving centres where you can learn to SCUBA-dive in crystal clear waters. Wind-surfing, jet skiing and wake-boarding are all possibilities depending on where you go - ask your specialist for more information.

VICTORIA FALLS

Victoria Falls looks as impressive today as it did upon its discovery 150 years ago.
